  • 1970 PW W-200 Oil Question

I am new owner of 1970 PW W-200 Utiline style vehicle. It has a rebuilt 383 cu in V-8. The previous owner is not now available to discuss previously used engine oil. Given the info just provided, any advice as to viscosity and if synthetic or natural oil would be appreciated. Oil and filter will be changed soon.Vehicle will be operated infrequently in climate ranging from -5 to 110 degrees.

Synthetic is usually better, but may be more prone to leaks. Not sure if the rebuild would remedy that.

I have had great results with Valvoline 10W-40 or 20W-50 conventional oil & a Wix 51515 filter. Valvoline is not paraffin based & doesn't seem to sludge up.

Others will recommend different brands & wouldn't be wrong in doing so.

Thank you for the quick and thoughtful reply. I'll give the Valvoline a try.

Since you say it was recently rebuilt, then the 10W-40 should work. I use the 20W-50 on high mileage engines until I get them redone, it keeps the gauge pressure reading higher.
