  • Yoke nuts

    1986 W100
I have some drive shaft issues. Some of it is a couple of bad yokes.

    All components are stock.

I am taking all 3 driveshaft off and taking it all to a driveline shop including all 6 yokes.

Does anyone know what size the yoke nuts are ?

Are all 6 the same size ?

I don't have a socket that big and need to buy one.

Assuming you meant 1968.... The nuts on the transfer
case carry a different part number than the axle pinion
and transmission output shaft nuts. If I get a chance, I'll
try to measure them for you. I think I have an NP435
laying around to measure as well. If you haven't tried
to remove these nuts yet.... I'll suggest that you find a heavy
steel bar to clamp onto your yokes that are long enough
to contact the truck frame. The bar will keep the yoke
completely still so you can remove the yoke nuts. Trying
to remove these nuts, even with the tires chocked, is
    just about impossible.....

Best way to remove yoke nuts is with an air impact wrench, holding the yoke can most often be done with only hand pressure.

        Got them off

I did buy an electric impact wrench and it did work.

I used a bottle jack to keep them from rotating.

        6 yokes, 3 different sizes.

4 are bad so I am replacing all 6 with the newer type that have a small nipple to keep them centered.

Where is the best place to buy seals ?

        Front diff
        Rear diff
        Tranny
        Transfer case x 3

Is it a 1968 or a 1986? Either way you should have pretty good luck at your local NAPA, I have always tried my best to keep the factory seal in good shape upon removing for both part numbers and comparing it to the new units.
