  • My First Post>>> M886

Hey, well here's my first post on this site, seems pretty cool. I bought a RED '77 Dodge M886 from my buddy ah, last October, but it hasn't seen much road time, Needs the 727 rebuilt.... and the fuel system worked on. I only have this one picture... cuz it's at my uncle's about to get the guts dropped out of her this weekend. >>>> I have a ? for you guys, when you go to get them insured, do you just tell them it's a W200? They were trying to tell me I have to get commercial insurance on mine, and being 17 that'd be expensive for me. Thanks guys.

          Ambulance Insurance Issues

When I applied for insurance for my M-43, the insurance clerk was aghast because I answered the "Body Type?" question with "ambulance" and they could not insure ambulances.

I checked with the state Department of Transportation (Texas) and explained that the body type did not indicate the actual use. They told me that, if it had seats in the back, I could amend the title to make it a passenger vehicle. I sent pictures of the rear compartment showing the seats along with the request to amend the title.

I had no trouble getting regular insurance for my 1952 Dodge VAN.

California and possibly other states have a 'House Car' registration, generally similar to an RV designation. You can throw a camper shell on a pickup and go from 'Commercial' to 'House Car'. On some vehicles you need to toss a Porta-Potty in the back with an ice chest and a piece of foam rubber as a bed to qualify as a house car. My old Town Wagon only required a bed over the tool boxes to change from Commercial to House Car. Don't know about your neck of the woods but worth checking out.

Thanks for the welcome and the advice everyone. My VIN and Title have matching numbers, and my title says PK, which y'all know is Pickup. So... I'm just gonna tell the insurance co. that it's just a W200 like it says on the title. It aught not matter if it's a truck or an ambulance, cuz to me it's a truck... Thanks..

                  Insurance...

                  Crank;

Tell them its a panel van and you will be using it for your future landscape business. I doubt they'll even question it.

                    Crank,
Depending upon the mileage that you drive each year, or plan to drive, you might want to look into Hagerty CLassic Insurance. My policy is under $100 a year for stated value. Check thier web site and look into the restrictions first. For your age, that might be a good way to go.

                      Wellcome

                      Hi Brandon
                      Wellcome on the forum.
Here in Holland we can't drive a car until we are 18.
Looks like a lot of work on the truck.
                      Good luck, Olaf

My Insurance conpany is still trying to figure out what to do. I have no definate answer yet. Right now they are leaning towards having me paint over the red crosses & insuring it. Plan B is having the title changed from "Ambulance" to "motor home" I was going to try Hagerty, but they require it be garaged, & my garage ceiling is about a foot & a half to short!
But plan A is sell the thing and pay off some bills.
