  • 1942 Des Moines

Here is an interesting photo I found on the web. It's from January 1942 on east 30th street in Des Moines. If you know the area, the big square building in the background is the Fairground Hardware store and is still in buisness today. On the right hand side (and not in view) is the Iowa State Fairgrounds. I wonder if it was in 1946 maybe the truck could have been a power wagon.

Neat photo. I did a lot of business with Fairground Hardware when I was stationed on the East Side. I like the old-time atmosphere of the place. Amazing how unchanged it is after all the years. Good people there too.

And the truck...well...it's just plain cool.

Why is it that the inside of old truck cabs smell so good?

        Great Picture

I bet that is some hardware store. Looks a little like down-town Reedville, VA.

I've been to that hardware store myself...
And, yes, that is a great picture!

Nice picture Steve. We sure didn't have that much snow this year.

Looking at this picture I realized when this was taken my great grandma lived about a block away and her son (grandpa) was coming back from North Africa after being badly injured and spending several months in a body cast. Also he would see his son for the first time who would already be almost two years old.
