  • HyVee pancakes in Fairfield

Those of you who know me also know that in the past I always ordered pancakes the the HyVee in Fairfield. Since they built the new location the pancake mix was changed for whatever reason. I emailed HyVee and got a reply saying they have switched mixes again. I know this is may seem a petty thing to some but I miss the old pancakes. I look forward to trying the pancakes this year. Go ahead Gordon give me the business about my pancake obsession. I know you miss the old location by being able to walk next door from the BW.

Oh yea, perhaps great pancakes again?
    I drive a DODGE, not a ram!

    Thanks,
    Will

Ron, once you get the batter change implemented, I need you to go to work getting them to move the store back to the original location. I want to be able to walk next door for breakfast once again. I find it irritating that they did not consult me when they first considered moving the store.

Why is it that the inside of old truck cabs smell so good?

Gordon I'll see what I can do but I'm only one guy. It would be easier to get another motel built close to the HyVee I believe. Besides we had to drive to the store from the Super 8 this just evens the score. I'm hoping the pancakes will return to the way I remember them. I was pleasantly surprised that I got a reply from the Fairfield kitchen manager. She said they look forward to our rally every year.

I suggest that the path you wore through the bushes between the Best Western and the HyVee over 25 years be called Maney St.

            Pancakes?

Gordon is still missing the waffle bricketts from the Country Kitchen! Ask him to tell you that story.

Ron, did you happen to mention that you were from the Power Wagon Rally? The lady that sent you the reply - I'll bet I know who her boss is. Kris, the son of the man I bought my '47 WDX from is, I believe, the head of that department at the Fairfield HyVee. You met his father, Keith, in the motel parking lot last year. He and I had not seen each other since I loaded up my "new" Power Wagon and left his driveway back in 1980. He rode in the Power Wagon during the parade on Saturday last year. His first ride in the truck in 32 years! His wife and son also took some good pictures. All thanks to you and your chance meeting as they were in town visiting and it just happened to be Rally week.

            Maybe Kris pulled some strings?!

I ate at the Country Kitchen during my first rally in 2001. I went back once again at a later rally and found out why the number of trucks there was next to nil. That's when I found out about HyVee and have been going there ever since. The ladies name is Staci Wahl who is the kitchen manager there. Yes I told her I was with the rally group. Two of the things I'm particular about, pancakes and cole slaw. I was in a Bob Evans and ordered pancakes. They came, I tried them after which I called over our server. She asked if everything was ok. I replied that there is nothing like good pancakes and there were NOTHING like good pancakes. She apologized and sent over the manager. I explained to him that his pancakes were sub par to which he offered to make some more. I declined saying if they can't make them right the first time how will they get any better? He took the order off the bill. Here's to hoping they get them right at HyVee again.

I'm glad you and Keith had a nice reunion and I had a small part in it. It truly is a small world.

                  Try Betty's Pancakes

                  Betty Baker made pancake batter.
She always used a little butter.
“But,” said she, “this butter’s bitter.
If I put it in my batter,
It will make my batter bitter.
                  But a bit of butter,
                  Better than the bitter butter
Will make my bitter batter better.”
So Betty Baker bought some butter
                  Better than the bitter butter.
She put it in her bitter batter
And it made her bitter batter better.

Say it fast several times. If you can do it better than I, I'll buy you some pancakes at the rally.

Ron, I actually learned this in college. It was in a class on helping speech handicapped students.
