I'm hoping to see a lot of folks on the 7th and 8th. I work a 24 hour shift at the F.D. on the 6th but should arrive in Fairfield by late morning on the 7th. It's only 102 miles or 2 1/2 hours by Power Wagon from my home to the Fairgrounds. Unfortunately we have to depart the evening of the 8th as Colt has a big baseball tournament starting the 9th and going through Sunday. Baseball supercedes all at my house. If you're attending, please post the days you will or won't be there.

Who's Going
A couple of friends and I are flying in on the 7th, just for the day. They both just bought restored Power Wagons, '50s vintage, after I introduced them to them a few months ago. Unfortunately, none of us have the time to bring the trucks, or stay more than one day. Hope it is long enough to see some worthwhile things.
Anyone know how far the airport is to the place we should go first? Never been there and would appreciate some suggestions of how to maximize our time.

Iowa Trip
Quite frankly, haven't even looked to see where closest airport is. We're flying a private jet, need about 5000' of runway. I've been assuming there is a general aviation airport close, hopefully in Fairfeld. 'Bout time to start planning the trip, I guess. :-)

Where should we go first to see the most activity and get the lay of the land, so to speak?

The fairgrounds is where you register/sign in. That is probably the best starting point, then: discuss

Molly and I have confirmed reservations at the Best Western Fairfield, we check in Thurs 7th, check out Mon 11th. Still haven't finalized travel plans but the sleeper train idea is out due to cost. We will probably fly NY to Chicago, Chicago to Cedar Rapids or Demoines sp?. We may take train from Chicago to Ottumwa. The only part thats 99% sure is that we will fly Jet Blue NY- Chi 50$ per person,Thats why we are staying Sun Night. Chi-Ny Sun nite costs 125$ per person, Monday 50$ per. Looking at the journey as an adventure and we are open to all suggestions. Chicago and Iowa residents as well as frequent fliers please chime in with advise. Thinking about renting a convertible.
Ps: Mollys 11 yrs old but has two rallys under her belt,Vermont and West VA
