  • Modified flathead 6, dual carbs & split manifold

A teaser photo of this truck's engine appears in the June 2012 issue. There will be an article series at some point in the future covering this project truck.

Why is it that the inside of old truck cabs smell so good?

It appears in the video that repro "cast headers" are being used, along with an electric fuel pump (that style of exhaust gets mighty close to a mechanical pump).

I wonder what fuel pump was used when those headers were first developed?

That's a good question. I'm wondering if they took some liberties with the original design, as the rear swept back (cyl 4-5-6) piece would be better for fuel pump clearance. Phillips Performance had a header that was swept back in front, no one could ever seem to contact them...

An outfit called Kansas Kustoms used to do split manifold mods, but they quit and passed it on to a fellow in Texas doing business as "Splitz Manifolds". To do the job right, you need two manifolds to get the right downturn for the front piece (you need two rear downturns).
