  • Plasma cutters.

Disclaimer: Getting lit up while leaning against a metal table when a cat holding the stick decided to run a bead is the ONLY thing I know about welding/cutting. Of course, this had to happen in high school. Please keep that in mind when answering my questions.

I know several of you must have seen the show Monster Garage before. They do a great deal of welding, and I saw them doing a good deal of cutting while make a VW Bug into an air boat.

When they were cutting metal it was such a smooth, neat cut it was like a razor going through butter. What were they using?

It looked like they were using the same thing they were welding with.

How would a welder differ from a plasma cutter? Y'all were talking about burning holes throught metal a minute ago, could you not just go with the setting momentarily that does this, or would you have a shaggy looking hole/cut?

They were using a plasma cutter. Using a stick welder on high amperage will cut but it will be a ragged hole plus you are using up rod. The plasma cutter doesn't use up anything but electricity and air
