  • 4bt Question

A friend of mine has a brand new 4bt still in the crate. It does not have a bell housing with it. He has access to a dodge ram with a 6bt and 5 speed (probably late '80s). Will the 6bt bell housing, flywheel, and starter bolt directly on the 4bt with no modifications? I thought I read it somewhere on the forums but who has the answer?

    Thanks, Steve

Yep, the perfect setup, Steve! That allows use of the larger Dodge clutch and is a direct bolt on job. If you can find out the exact year I can double check with a friend of mine who has lots of info on which year parts are best to use.

Any recommendations as far as an automatic tranny (with 4WD) to go with the 4Bt?

          Hi Lee:

Thanks. I guess I better wait and see what we will be using before I speculate anymore. HA!

The other 2 most common are the tried and true 727 Torqueflite or the o'drive diesel 727, the A-618. A stronger aftermarket torque converter is suggested by most.

Hey Jimmie, the truck my friend may get will be from '89-91. He has 9 different trucks to pick from. Thanks.

That could be one killer conversion! Brand new in the crate 4BT? Most guys won't live long enough to wear one out from brand new. Mine's used and it will still likely outlast me?
