  • V-8 Intake Gasket Replace

Have to replace the intake gaskets on a V-8 with carb. What is good to use on the gaskets to hold them in place on the heads when replaceing the intake?

When I removed the old gaskets, which I'm sure were original, I did not see any evidence of sealer or glue on either side on the old gaskets. Not sure how someone could get the intake on without the gaskets slipping; guess the manufacturer has special tricks.

On the port side use a spray on sealer like "High Tack". On the lifter valley use a normal silicone sealer.

      High Tack

Do you have a brand name for "High Tack"?

Permatex makes the high tack sealer. Some intake gaskets I've used had small plastic inserts that held the gasket in place as you dropped it on. Forget the foam end gaskets and use RTV silicone but don't get crazy with it. Permatex makes the RTV too at any good parts store. Clean your surfaces with brake clean to remove any oil also.
