  • Can a M37 be started if the instrument panel is removed?

I have another question, I have my m37 B1 that has had the instrument panel and gauges removed. My question can the truck be started with out the gauges being hooked up or do I need to reinstall them? This truck was at a friends house to be restored. He had a heart attack and did not finish. Cold weather is closing in and I need to get the truck started. Thanks for any help!!

As long as voltage is making it to the coil & gas to the carb it should start. Tape over any exposed hot wires so they don't ground out.

It's not a good idea to go very far/long w/o oil or temp gauges functional.

Sorry to hear about your friend's situation.

        Bad Idea

It's a bad idea to start the engine at all without a working oil pressure gauge. A very short time without pressure means disaster. If it isn't convenient to reinstall the original, a cheap mechanical gauge can quickly and easily be plumbed into the oil galley. We NEVER crank an engine here without a working OP gauge.
