  • Restore Wheels on a WDX

What is the best procedure to refurbish wheels?

Can the rivets be removed, the parts sand blasted and painted then the parts re riveted? It seems like sand blasting will not get the rust build ups between rim and center, unless the parts are split.

Also, what is the max tolerance for the lug nut seats? Mine look oversize as the lug nuts bury themselves quite far.

Lastly what torque value for tightening lug nuts?

    Thanks

Taking the wheels apart would be no problem but I believe trying to rivet them back together and maintain radial and lateral alignment would be an issue. If I were to do this I would weld the centers back in and use a dial indicator to align the wheel. If your wheel has a lot of rust between the center and rim (to the point of buckling the rivet area) I would try to find a better wheel.
