Steering wheel repair

So I looked and found nothing on how to repair all the cracks in the steering wheel. So here is how I went about the repair.

First step was to remove any parts that were loose and close to coming off.

I then sprayed PickleX 20 on all the cracks a couple times and sprayed the excess off with the air compressor.

Once dried the cracks were filled with JB WaterWeld epoxy putty.

Sanded the WaterWeld smooth with the original steering wheel.

Sanded the entire wheel with 220 grit.

Painted the steering wheel: 2 part epoxy primer, black paint, followed with clear gloss.

Nice work. I used the Eastwood Steering Wheel Repair Kit. I remember just how much work it was grinding all the cracks to a V grove down to the metal, filling and sanding and sanding and sanding but turned out great (my final paint is not as nice as yours).

Very nice work on your wheel. Good to hear from you. I hope your truck is making laps around town.

I hope to make an attempt in getting it to run late this weekend. I still have several items to complete:
- PCV coming later this week that needs to be installed,
- fan issue from the power steering upgrade needs a spacer - received one 5/8” thick that puts the fan 1/8” from the radiator so I hope to make one out of a 3/8” thick disk arriving tomorrow
- bleed brakes
- bleed power steering
- install radiator hoses and fill
- prime fuel line
- turn the engine over to verify oil pressure

This is all based on the hopes I got all the wiring connected correctly.

Probably end up next weekend based on how everything has been going.

I wish I could drive it around town more. I did replace the front differential during my build (the old ones were very pitted) with OEM before VPW came out with their 4:11 gears. Now I wish I had the 4:11's. Driving at a max speed of around 35 mph makes it difficult for me to get it down to town since its all highways. Your Orange Truck is looking fantastic and should be a great daily driver if needed (I would)
