M37 Safety Recall discovered at Pat and Wanda's Tailgate Par
We discovered a safety issue while were we at Pat and Wanda's Tailgate Party held September 25 - 27. It is discussed with pictures in the party report.
Glad to hear that this was a low speed incedent and everyone was ok.
A possible fix might be to adapt the ball from a toyota truck steering setup(1979-85 4x4 mini-truck). I can't tell the size of the ball from the photo's but Toyota used a similar setup. The toyota ball is a press-fit into the steering arm on the diff, and the pitman arm, with a ring of weld around the backside. After the weld is ground off, the ball can be pressed out of the arm for replacment.
This may provide a viable replacement part should they be of similar size. These parts are still available, and easy to find. If a power steering swap using a Toy box is planned, then the donor vehicle would have two of these balls, and two appropriate sized couplers as well.
