  • M37 Door Latch Question

Seems the latch spring broke on the driver's side door. I can close and latch the door, but need to hold the inside handle down when slamming it shut.

Thought I'd toss a line in the water here and see if anyone could advise me on how to proceed.

    Thanks in advance.

Sounds like the coil spring on the latch/lock mechanism has failed, simply replace the spring, or sometimes rust and corrosion will become bad enough to create more friction than the spring can overcome, in which case a good cleaning and lubrication should take care of it. Remove the latch assembly from the door shell and investigate the issue.

It's fairly easy to remove the door latch assembly since screws hold it to the door frame. If it's busted replacements are available.

        Latch Spring

Thank you both. Is there a prefered source for the latch spring, or can I just match it up with a generic spring?

          Springs

The last source for the spring I knew about was Bill Lammer in Ocala, Fl.
The complete latching mechanism is available, NOS as well as Repro, both around 55/60$'s, I think? Try John at www.midwestmil.com
or maybe AB Linn, AB's in Salisbury, NC
          Good Luck,

              Door Latch Springs

Midwestmil had the springs. Easy fix, I also had to replace the little rubber bumper in the mechanism. I used a piece of tire rubber. Hope it holds up. Thx for the help
