  • Points Problem... Bad Distributor???

I have a 62' M37 with the standard 230 six and it's eating points like crazy any suggestions? Some kid put 12 volt wires on it and while they are cute should they go bye bye? Can the coil be sending too much/little juice through? Maybe the distributor is going the way of the ghost... I almost want to start over with evrything new electrical wise except I know there has to be a simple solution involved, any theories involved would be great...

Who does great MV work up in Washington state and who is a great source for a regulator nationwide???

    Hello Robert,
Saw you posted this on the G741 site as well.

Points should always be replaced with the condenser at the same time.

You didn't tell us if you have the stock 24 volt system and waterproof distributor. You mention 12 volt wires but do you actually have a converted 12 volt electrical system?

Exactly how are the points failing? IE burning and pitted, broken etc.

    Is the distributor properly lubed?

Is the distributor shaft snug or does it waddle around laterally.

Are you inadvertently leaving the ignition switch on when the engine is not running?

It is a classic symptom of a bad or poorly connected condenser.

Why is it that the inside of old truck cabs smell so good?
