New M37 Owner

I have to admit that an M37 wasn't my first choice.

Like most, I wanted a 1-ton civillian Power Wagon. But the reality of being able to afford a decent civillan model and actually restoring was becoming bleak.

I found this truck about 5 years ago but the owner wasn't ready to part. A few weeks ago, the owner contacted me and was ready for sale.

Obviously the owner didn't know what he had. I paid $500 for the entire truck and $120 to have delivered to my house, 7 miles away.


The truck is in very good shape. Original motor-T245, although the trans and winch is MIA. Every ID plate and gauge on the dash is near perfect/DOB 10-28-53.

Looks like a good one to put back on the road, it's in much better condition than the one I started with.

I'm looking for a tranny now. I wanna drive it at least once before I tear er' down.

My plans are to completely rebuild from the ground up and make it driveable in my little foothill, middle of no where town.

I was enjoying the looks that it got while I was following it home on the towtruck.

Yes it is a Scag and I love it. My wife and I own/operate a small motel on 20 acres. I keep about 3 acres of it irrigated so I have to mow about twice a week.

Parts truck, Hmm Last week my wife and I were wandering around South Western NY in the town of Addison on rt 417 near rt 15.
I spy an M37 sitting next to a service station and of course I stop in and ask about it.
My thoughts were "if I can get it cheap it may be worth it".
I aske the fellow sitting eating with his feet up on another chair If the truck is for sale ? He continues to chew for a few seconds and replys "nope".
I aske if it runs ,,,again he chews a bit and says "yep it runs great".
As I left I looked closer at it and saw a small tree growing up out of the space between the radiator and the bumper and wondered how long ago it ran "great".

I had seen my hopefull parts truck sometime ago in an empty field. Only did I remember it after I brought home the M that I'm working on now.

The wife and I went for a drive yesterday. Low and behold we happened to drive down the same road that my parts truck sits on.

"Wow honey". "Is that an M37 sitting there"? "We better check it out". "Might be able to get that one for cheap"!

Does your wife say anything when you think about spending more time and money on your "toy"?

My wife says stuff but I cant really understand what she says because when I say I am thinking about getting this or that she sort of faces the other way and all I hear is a sort of mummbling sounds as she shakes her head.
I assume she is humming a happy tune but I might be wrong.
