my manual dosen't identify the casting bolted on the right side of the engine, rear of the fuel pump, it's leaking oil pretty good and I'd like to know what's behind it before I get the wrenches out. any help would be appreciated.

That's your oil pump. -
Be very careful if you remove it. It drives the distributor with an off set key on the end of the shaft. If you remove it and turn over the engine you will mess up the timing.
Getting it back in and having it pick up the helical drive gear can be a real test of your patience.
When you push it back in the shaft will turn because of the gearing. You have to compensate for the twist of the gearing.
It has a cork gasket under it that is probably leaking.
