Well I finally got some time to look at my M43 and one thing I don't like is the hack job of converting it to 12 volt....It has no spark which I need to look into further but I'm doing some looking for components now...I want to go back to 24 volt and I have the starter and generator, which I'm going to rebuild if I can find the parts, but I don't have the distributor...If anyone has one for sale, throw me a price...And also (this is directed toward Charles Talbert) I've read that you offer an electronic upgrade for the distributor but do you offer the whole distributor with the upgrade? And if so, how much? And can anyone tell me where I can get parts to rebuild my starter and generator? Or at least part numbers? Any info is appreciated...Thanks...Bill

Another question
I also know that if you change the distributor you must also change the oil pump, but on mine the pump looks like it's never been touched...so my question is do you have to change the oil pump or can you simply change the gears on the replacement distributor? Because if you can't, then I'm very glad this engine didn't start...I will be calling you Charles about the distributor as soon as I get a chance...

Ok...now that I got my head straight...If there are no gears to change then I assume the oil pump is driven off a tang on the distributor just like most cars on the road in the last 30 + years....Is that what is meant by the military distributor having an offset tang? If that is true then it would be physically impossible to install a 12 volt civilian dist. into an engine with a military oil pump, right? I've also seen ads for 12 volt M37 distributors...If such a thing exists then that would explain why my oil pump looks like it's never been touched...I will give you a call Charles, but what is the best time? I went to your website but couldn't find any business hours (although they were probably right in front of me)...

The pump is gear driven off the cam shaft, distributor is tang driven. The military tang is offset with the concept it can not be installed 180* out of time. When they get worn, they will go in backwards with little persuation. The shaft may wobble, depends on the amount of wear that is present. How does 1 reach a definitive decission that the oil pump has never been touched, even though it may appear that way? There is but 1 way to know for sure, start pulling components to see what you have, or what someone may have done to change it from original.

Curious if anyone has ever used a 24 to 12 volt converter for their "12 volt: trucks.
Rewired a ship a while ago and we used alot of convertors to step down the 24 volt dc supply down to 12 vdc for various instruments and gear.
