Is there any significant difference between a Military M37 block and a Civilian? aside from casting numbers etc.

Sadly I think I used to know this, but it mistakenly got filed in the "unimportant to retain post 50 years old, information" file." lol

To the best that my memory can serve is the oil dipstick may be different. A thread in compared to a press in. And also the oil fill tube, one is a press in the other has 2 studs that hold the tube in place. And also there could be a difference with the rear main seal, a slip in option or a bolt on option. That is all i can think of off the top of my head. I hope this helps.

Oil dipstick is different, and also the manifold on the military one is "sealed" a little better for fording.

I just put a civi 230 into my M-37 last summer, easy swap. Still has the millitary tranny and transfer case. I like it better this way, I can get distributor parts, etc easier at my local napa
