Has anyone here had the journals on a 230 crank cut? one of the rod bearings went bad in my truck. My dad had bad luck with remachined cranks in his m-37 years ago something like three of them. Are they case hardened and machining goes through that?

Wouldn't know why he had trouble in the past unless they were turned to far or clearance wrong.
20 under is as far as I like to go then look for a better shaft.
Ideally std. or 10 under works best.

crank
I took the crank rods and block to the machine shop today to be checked out, they said it's not that bad, fixed far worse. While taking it apart, I discovered the top ring in 2,3,4 and 5 was broken leaving only two cyl. with proper compression, this is a French rebuilt 230 I'm guessing wwII vintage? so with modern rings and cleaned up bores should have a lot more power. How is the quality of these French rebuilt motors?
