It's been done. Who was the guy who had the "Wilderness Assault Vehicle". �� 440 powered M37 with Dana 70's.

Just a few questions on why, to do the axle swap?

Is it due to gear ratio options?
Strength of the components?
Better Breaking?

I have seen many swaps done and would really like to compare the w's on doing this for everyone's information.

Tim Peterson had the Wilderness Assault Vehicle. Tim also had the first disc brake kits and also to use the Saginaw power steering. I had Dana 70s and a 440 in my 1955 C3PW, it's the one on the right in my avatar.

I'd like to see more. You see there's these M37's down the road. And there's this Dana 60 limited slip front and rear and 440 4 speed stuff out back....

I have been waiting on Ring and pinion gears for over a year so this is option #2. This also will bring in more modern brakes. I am looking at a 75 W200 and am looking to use the whole power train under the M37 that is if I can get the 75 for a decent price.

Yeah,but see there's also this '90 12valve and if I found a nice clean 72-75 crewcab.

Nice looking truck, what axels did you put under your truck? Where did you get them?

Tim Peterson built the truck in the early/mid '80s. In the notes with the truck, it said the front axle is a Dana 70 from a mid '70s IH truck, it then had the original knuckles cut off and M37 knuckles welded on to the axle tubes. The rear axle is also a Dana 70 (I believe from a Ford). Guessing the spring perches have also been moved. There is currently a Power lock in the front axle and a Detroit locker in the rear axle.
