    Thanks Charles.......

at this point, that is the best idea. I will take it off tomorrow, bag and ship it to you.
I also have another purchase from M Series to make so I'll include a note in the box with that request.

      Hey Bruce,,,,,

I would really like to be typing those words of accomplishment but, I still must admit that I am still learning about all things automotive. Don't have as many answers as questions...I appreciate the moral support!

712edf - She sounds like a good old soul..We should all be so self sufficent.

Thanks for the opportunity to have a look, I like a good challenge, this one surely sounds like it could be just that. This has been a hair puller & as you know I don't have a lot of that to work with, but we'll skin this cat one way or another & post the result when it's all figured out.

Well I believe it's figured out

Warren called this afternoon telling about pulling the pump off the engine in preparation to send it to us, placed in a vise to remove the fittings from the intake & outlet ports when he noticed a pressure release when he removed the plug from the discharge port. Knowing this appeared strange, he proceeded to unclog the hole in the fitting after which the pumping problem was solved. Big mystery, simple solution. I've also had similar issues before, I have learned the hard way, look closely at EVERYTHING.

            One of those AHA moments.....

Charles is correct. Look at everything. The only non - new part on the entire fuel system was that one fitting. I had scavenged that fitting from an old fuel pump that had been in garage storage for a long time. The mud daubers had at one point filled it with dirt so tight that it still won't all come out. I am not going to re use it.
Earlier, during this process, I had the new pump in the vise and decided to look at the 6 check valves to see if they were messed up. I unscrewed the multiple screws from the very top cover just like I always do when faced with a task like that - I jump around and unscrew them while trying to keep the screws coming out evenly. When I started to unscew the last tight screw, gas shot out of the chamber and onto the wall about 3 feet away. You'd think at that point I would have known something is wrong. All I thought of was - Glad that gas didn't squirt on me.....narrow focus there.
At this time, I have not reassembled and tested everything. It is just too darn cold. Tomorrow or the next day should be a little better for it. 50's instead of 30's. Many Thanks to all who posted and gave advice and encouragement.
I will post the results after I get it back together.

You get lucky, it's a good feeling, isn't it?

That was actually funny after about 2 minutes.

Bruce - I am not so sure it was luck. More like - I have spent so much time and effort on this problem that sooner or later it would dawn on me what was wrong. I don't always see the bigger picture either. Again, narrow focus.
I don't feel like it was the proverbial "ton of bricks" falling on me but I was heading in that direction.
I will post the results when I can get back on it.

With the temperature in the high 70's

it was time to get back on it today. Reinstalled the pump, lines, filter, etc. Hand primed the line in 4 strokes....Nice. No choke, turn the key, hit the starter and she fired right up. Problem solved! On to the next issue (another post). After not being able to figure out the next issue, I thought, let's see if this thing will move under its own power...Installed the rear driveshaft, xfer case linkage, close the hood, attach the NEG battery cable and started it up again. 1st gear, idle speed, release the clutch and off I go around the yard. It has been quite some time since this has moved under its own strength (many years). Nice. Parked it in another spot, turned it off and sighed.
This post has been a long time coming. Now, meet the final challenges and begin the roadtrips.
                    Thanks all.

                        Ripken / Aberdeen

Bruce - That is my goal, to drive it there. I've been going to those shows since the early 80's and have never driven anything military to it. Now that it is running, I can begin to picture it happening.....see you there maybe??
