  • Axle type for VF

    Hi All:

I have a 1940 VF-402 which has a 6-lug rear axle instead of the 5-lug it SHOULD have. Any idea what this impostor came from? Looks the same as the 5-lug model....

    Thanks!

    Axle . . .

Photo would be helpful to verify, but the rear is likely to be a 8.75" rear. More info would be needed to confirm what it is.

      Wheels

No idea where the wheels come from, Chevrolet build many 6-lug wheels and rear ends.

I think I already mentioned to Ken ...

The six lug axle came from a 41-47 WD one ton, from the look of his photos.

Dodge only used small six lug axles on the '39-'47 trucks, and only on the one ton series.

1939 and 1940 (TD and VD one tons) were set up for disc wheels, the larger full-floating six lug that could take duals on the rear was only used on the 41-47 WD20 and WD21.

Not a bad axle, just not right for that particular truck, but we cleared that up on another WW2 Dodge Forum ... 8~)
