Any idea on the availability of 4.89 ring and pinion sets? Thought you mentioned that one of your rigs had 'em...

Both of my trucks have them. All four sets came out of parts trucks I have owned.

Paul Caudell at MARS used to sell new ones. I have not talked to him in a very long time.

I have just learned today; Paul Caudell passed away in April of this year. Very sad news.

Why is it that the inside of old truck cabs smell so good?

The 4.89 gears project was initiated by Paul Caudell. Bob Stahl worked with Paul later; the gears are from the same manufacturer.

I am very sorry to hear of Paul's passing. He was a great guy who had a lot of Power-Wagon knowledge which he enjoyed sharing with those of us fortunate enough to meet him.

Paul also helped get the whole "diesel engine in a PW" ball rolling years ago with his development of the Hercules kits.

Gordon, remember the Civilian model Power-Wagon that he rebuilt and brought to the first Rally back in 1988? It was headed to a new owner in California. I believe you spotlighted the owner and truck in an issue of the magazine.

Yes, I do remember. Paul did very thorough work and was an enthusiast of stainless steel fasteners. He had a lot of enthusiasm.
