Kevin, Thanks, yea I got a little carried away in fixing the brakes didn't I. Seems once I realized I couldn't mount the dual circuit master cylinder under the cab, I went to hanging pedals, and that just necessitated the removal of the cab to make mounting them easier, then the snow ball just kept going. I'f I'd just got the courage up earlier to do the body and paint work I'd been long done by now.

    Thanks,

Gas torch and water soaked rag cures oil canning really well.

Thanks, tell me more, I've got to fix the doors with the same issue.

Thanks Bruce. Yes, I love the Red. I was about to paint it CaseIH Red, but rather than use the "farm" enamel, I went with a close match of automotive paint from Kirker called Flame Red, And it's a great beautiful bright red, just what I wanted.

I've used this method several different times with good success.

                Oil canning

That u tube video was very informative. When I was working on the driver side door of my Carryall that had serious oil canning issues, I used my stud welder with a shrinking tip to do the same thing. I had no idea what I was doing and I would not swear that the door has the exact original curvature it started life with (looks ok), but it definitely cured the oil canning. Using the stud welder also required some follow up hammering. It is hard to tell in the video wether the torch and rag technique will also require some follow up hammering although my guess is that it would.
What you have done so far looks fabulous and you must be very encouraged to be at this point in your project. Thanks for sharing it with us.

                  Thanks David & BigSmoke,

My doors are caved in and when I push them out they pop back in when I let go. So I guess it's not truly oil canning, but I was thinking I needed to stretch the metal back out to get it to hold the proper popped out shape. Here are a couple of pictures (Click on them to see them larger).

Oh and Dave, yes I'm thrilled at the work so for. I can set there and admire the paint and color for hours, but then I won't get it back together. As for sharing I always look for others advice and happy to share what little I have to help others.

                  Thanks,
                  Will

That's still a "oil can" scenario.

Looks like you might need the help of a stud welder in a few areas first.

Anytime metal is kinked, bent or dented, it stretches. So in theory, it would need to be shrunk/shrank in order for it to be returned to it's original position.

                      Doors

I agree with BigSmoke. My carryall doors were pretty beat up also. I also had to do repairs at hinges and hardware openings. I used the stud welder for its original purpose of welding the little studs on in order to pull out the major dents first. But as I recall I ran into a similar problem of the stretched metal not wanting to stay put until it had been shrunk first. Apparently someone with the right tools and experience can shrink or stretch the metal via hammering as required, but I have never attempted this except in the case of very small areas. I want to emphasize that I am very much the novice at this sort of thing.

Thanks Guys. I've managed to install the Cowl seal and windshield. Next a little paint on the hood hinge and then install the cab on the truck.

I hope this evening goes well. With the help of two of the son-in-laws and the Engine Hoist I will attempt to safely re-install the cab back on the frame. I sure hope it goes well!

Took advantage of the nice weather today to take the truck for its first drive since the paint/re-assembly. Wanted to test the brakes and see how she did with the XZL tires. All is great, the rear wheels lock up a little early, but with out the bed, I'll wait to adjust the proportioning valve. She stops great. Will likely have to fine tune the clutch adjustment a little. The engine runs great, just has to have a lot of choke to keep it running. No problem with the larger XZL's, you can still take off in 2nd gear with no issues.

Why is it that the inside of old truck cabs smell so good?
