I had such a good laugh!! Your comments of the "rotty ready to strike and the confused strong feelings" , I totally understand. I am from exactly the same camp GM guy for the past 28 years and saw my first flat fender about a year and a half ago. Now the proud owner of 2 ffpw's and a 45' Canadian Military something or other WPT something, hey I'm new to this, but it is something like that.

Congrats on finding your one, I am loving the resto process. It has been an excellent journey so far. You will love it.

Here are some pics of my beasts, of course works in progress.

      Interesting Truck, Biffman

On the second truck in the snow, is that the original bed? I'm looking at the color difference between the cab and the bed. I've seen this before and I'm wondering if there was some paint difference between the cabs and beds or the way they weathered. I thought FFPW's were painted all one color on the body.

              Gas Tank

Ok, so I managed to pull out the gas tank a few days ago and I just got it back from being tested and lined. I've spend the morning cleaning what I'm guessing was some kind of undercoating off the outside of the tank. Now I need to know what is a good product to use to coat the outside of the tank. Anything anybody would recommend or anything I should stay away from?

Myself, I just coated it with a good Quality enamel paint. Tim

                  I second the Quality paint.
Eastwood has a paint called "Tank Tone" for an original look if wanted.

Congratulations on the find and for coming over to the right side!

Is that frame straight? The wrecker arm looks like its over the axle instead of between them? Or has the bed just settled in the back?

Have you visited Vintage Power Wagons in Fairfield Iowa yet?

No, I am sad to say that the frame is not straight. But I have found a straight donor frame to put under the truck. The boom is not bolted down so it had slid back in the picture.

I got the wheels taken off my truck today, and it only came at the expense of one breaker bar. I'm pretty sure harbor freight didn't have '49 power wagon lug nuts in mind when they designed their tools. I will say Tim Guinn filled me in on the candle wax trick to loosen up the lug nuts and it worked like a charm.
