So, after 2 trips to the SoS totaling probably 1:45 or 2 hours.......still not done.

Long story short, unless the vehicle is worth less than $2500, the forms I linked to won't work. I could get some bond against it somehow, but that would be a pain. If I could get an appraiser to say it's worth $2499.99, then I'd be set. They looked up a value online (I tried and failed with KBB) and the min is about $11K, and the max of like $41K, so that appraisal won't be happening. So.......basically, I NEED the title.

I called the 888 number for the SoS and asked about keeping the title. That guy claimed that it was no big deal and all I had to do was ask, and I would be able to keep it.

So, we'll see once I dig through my crapola and find it. I have a VAGUE idea of where it might be.

After a couple hours of searching, I re-found my title.

Got this in an email from the SoS:
The owner of a vehicle whose title is 25 or more years old may keep the title (Michigan or out-of-state title) used to transfer ownership.
No special permission is required. When you go into the Secretary of State branch office, please inform the staff that you would like to keep the historic title.

So after claiming a value (high enough that it wouldn't get rejected) I paid my stupid tax, $15 fee, and I was done.

So, now all I have to do is rebuild the truck. =)

Nice! Hopefully the truck goes as easily as your dealings with the local DMV.

Getting to keep mine was not difficult bit not nearly as easy either. Still it's a very cool piece of the trucks history to have an almost 70 year old title.

One thing I noticed while I was there, was that it was in the original envelope too. Postage was $0.03. DANG!

I got my spiffy new title in the mail on Friday.

Now "all" I have to do is restore the truck. =)

Transmission search

In my search for parts I picked up a np420 out of a 64 powerwagon
After getting it home I found that I need a civilian np420 that has a longer input shaft. The mounting holes are off but I could of redrilled some new holes. Since my 315 hemi and bellhousing came out of a 59 dodge truck the bellhousing is 1 inch deeper. I might be able to hook you up with a transmission if I get another one. Trying to find a spare input shaft out of a civilian transmission is like snipe hunting. Just an empty bag and tired of looking.

So your NP420 would fit my PW, if you can find a better-fit one for your PW.
Suddenly I'm snipe hunting too?... =)

Let me know, I guess. I'm still forever away from doing much with mine, but then again, that's the time to start looking for parts.

I have a couple pallets of extra stuff that I need to get over to my house and go through. I have been dreaming that the original owner somehow had an NP420 on hand "for later" or something. I mean, there's an engine block (or was it an entire engine)......

Transmission search

I'm located in southern Indiana. If I end up with another transmission I will let you know. I have found that Fastenal is a reasonable way to ship parts. PayPal with friends and family is also a convenient way to take care of payment.

I drove from Cadillac, Michigan to Denver, Colorado (in a weekend) for a snowblower for my tractor. In summary, southern Indiana doesn't scare me!

Anyway, yeah, keep me in mind.

I've got 2 np435 transmissions that I will use to make one. If you're still interested in the np420 I would sell it for what I got in it. I also have a pto if you don't have one already.
