For those that don't know Gordo is the name of my wife Sarah's 1948 Power Wagon. I'll let her tell more on that story. I just figured out how to post pictures so I thought I would start a thread on the engine replacement of Gordo. Nothing fancy just replacing the 230 with another 230. I am currently in the process of cleaning and resealing the new engine. (Technically not NEW but for ease of telling the story I'm going to call it new.) When we first got Gordo we pulled the oil pan off to check the innards out. First off the amount of sludgy goop in the bottom of a 70 year old truck is pretty impressive. Unfortunately we also discovered that Gordo had a crack in the block. It ran good but we knew it was only a matter of time before a new engine would be in order. IMG_20160128_182659153-738x1312.jpg -

The engine lasted a couple of years. Pretty good considering the amount of driving Sarah did with it. Her commute to work is 65 miles one way and several times she drove Gordo there. On Interstate 35, going up to 70 mph! I'm not joking! Here I'm following her doing 63 on the freeway. She said it would cruise nicely at this speed.IMG_20170526_053742128-738x1312.jpgComment

Interesting story, and interesting place to find a crack. And WOW! 70mph! It must have 4.89' differential gears, but even then, I'm surprised it would get going that fast. That's probably pushing the rpm's beyond what is good for the engine.Comment

Well.... I did find the point at which the engine over revs is approximately just over 70 mph... Heh heh.Comment

In the end, it actually seemed to thrive at 65. Crazy. Crazy FUN, THAT IS!! I'm hoping the new engine won't restrict me too much... I'm too cheap to buy an overdrive.Comment

Looking good! It's good to see you guys are keeping Gordon's Power Wagon going, and it really looks great. Just be careful with the high rpm's. Some of these engines tolerate high rpm's better than others, as some are better balanced than others, and maybe less wear than others.Comment
