There's a '46 1 ton WD21 for sale near me (found in a local ad). Would someone, anyone post a pic of what this truck would look like, because I have no idea. Also, any specs particular to this model.

Ed .... I actually saw that very same pic of your truck that you posted by searching the web. But, as you stated it was difficult to tell what the truck really looks like. Thanks for the link, I haven't subscribed yet, but do intend to. I would like to learn a bit more about these trucks.
Norm ... Thanks for the pics. Those are some fine lookin' trucks. Now I would love driving down to the local farmers market in one of them. One could only imagine the looks you would get ... lol.
I still may go and check out the truck thats for sale to see what condition it's in. From what I remember of the ad, it was not a running vehicle ... but I do remember he wants $1600 for it. I've called the individual and left a message for him to give me a holler back.
Oh, he also has a 42 dodge truck for sale that runs for $2800. His description of this truck states that it's 1942 Dodge Power Wagon, a civilian flatbed. I didn't know that they made civilian trucks during the war, but I'm not that familar with that era of Dodge trucks. As I recall, the Power Wagon (civilian model) didn't come into production until 1946. So I would assume the seller doesn't know what he has. Can't wait to hear more from the seller.Comment

It can certainly be a 1942 civilian model, but most certainly not a Power Wagon, but we all know that WC's get called Power Wagons all the time,... or called Jeeps.....Comment

Well I talked to the seller today and ask about the trucks he has for sale, but told him I was mostly interested in the '42. I ask him if this was a military truck and his reply was no, they have an open cab and this truck's cab is enclosed. I then stated that from what little I know the PW didn't go into production until '46. He stated that was true (ok, I am confused now) ... basically what he said was that the PW was available to fire departments, schools and other agencies at that time, but not available to the general public until '46. All I could say is that I did not know that. He goes on to tell me that he has 5 dodge trucks, one of them being a '46 PW with a winch. I ask if he could send me some pics of the '42. Well, would you believe he doesn't have a camera nor a computer. Ok, my couriousity is really up now. I gotta see these trucks he has. If possible, I will check them out this weekend. The guy sounds legit and has been involved with dodge trucks for many years.Comment

I would definately take the time to see what he has. My guess would be that it is a WC. If he has been around Dodge all his life, it would be difficult to convince him of this, but I think it is probably the case.Comment

I've learned to never say never when it comes to Dodge. Every once in a while a few things turn up that defy conventional thinking:

My son and I made the trip over to the sellers shop this afternoon to see the trucks that were advertised. This guy has several Dodges (WDX's, WD's and WC's) for sale all 1940's vintages, except for one '52 PW. All of the WD's and WC's were stored outside (plus a '46 PW) and turning to rust. He also has about 8 Jeep J20 series trucks. Inside the shop were 4 PW's. A '46, '47, '52 and the one he says is a '42. I took pics of all of them, except for the '52. There was just so much stuff piled around the truck it would have been difficult to take a picture. There is a '47 WD34 1.5 ton also inside the shop.
The 1st pic is of a couple WD21's. The one on the right has a 9 foot bed. Beware, these are not pretty. I hope the pics are sized correctly.Comment

This is the only other pic I got of the '46 WD21. The pic was taken for the PW tail gate and the bed plate that is next to the cab. The owner stated that those 2 pieces were problably reproduction parts because "Dodge" was not stamped on the metal.Comment

Regarding the '42 ... I tried to get the number off the frame, but it has a plate welded across the frame member. I didn't ask why that was done. I believe I have a pic of that. I did however get a pic of the engine number, which is T306I20488. Of course this could be the original or a replacement. The pics I took of the other trucks will be posted on the "for sale" forum.Comment
