  • Is Your Power Wagon the Next Victim?

Due to the high price of scrap and the low moral standards of some people, two of my trucks where butchered up this weekend. They used only a hacksaw blade and a pry bar. These items where left behind. They couldn't even figure out how to open the hoods.

Truck #1 Hood bent, hood hinge broken, radiator cover mangled, shroud broken to pieces, radiator stolen. This truck also has a 6 volt alternator setup on it with the original fabric covered wire. They apparently needed the wire.

Truck #2 Hood bent, radiator cover mangled, radiator mangled and pried loose from the brackets.

I believe I interupted them and thats why the tools were left behind and the one truck still has the radiator in it.

All this so they could steal some brass. I cannot tell you how angry I am about this. They did so much damage to the trucks I am very saddened.

    That's aweful!
In fact, it would be mighty tempting to just go get the bird gun, go back to the trucks, and wait. . .

We have ways of dealing with such problems here in the back woods. Usually works great with 1 simple application.

        Hey Old Dodge,

Very sorry to here about your loss, I can certainly understand your frustration and anger. These kind of people are usually the most selfish types you can imagine, they think only of themselves and have never learned any kind of responsibility or principles from home. Then when they end up in prison they become even more of a burden on society.
I like the idea of the bird gun or even a dog, make that a mean hungry dog...

I would suggest contacting all scrap dealers within 50 miles, describing the radiator.

Why is it that the inside of old truck cabs smell so good?

I would imagine, like Gordon, that their next stop was the scrap yard. Do you have a decent sheriffs department there that will try and help out on this?

I would have to say that anyone I caught hacking my truck up would likely die of lead poisoning.........

Man, what a tragedy, Kevin, really sorry!

I've thought about catching a thief. Think I'd prefer to take them to the woods, make them strip, chain them to a tree and pour honey on them, from the waist down.

I know how you feel, been there. If they are smart enough they won't be back, but hey thieves are not too smart. I'm surprised they went through all that trouble for a radiator, most thieves want it easy and without work nowadays.

Where I live in the far, far back woods, he would be shot for that. My neighbor opened fire on a guy a few weeks ago and I bet he won't back. I have serious neighbors that are not scared one bit of bullets. I have watched them stand in the mist of gun fire shot at them and not twitch. Their probably a little crazy but I have protection around me and we look out for each other's farms.

Bird shot is too good for that kind of vulture, something more permanent is in order....

To paraphrase Louis L'amor: "If you're going to shoot, shoot to kill. They've all been wounded before and wounds don't impress 'em."

Unfortunately, the law doesn't look favorably on bodily harm to defend property. Now if they came at you with the crow bar, that would be another story...

My neighbor kept having hoodlums break into his shop, siphon gas from tractors etc. One night he laid in wait with a shot gun. Caught them in the act and let loose over their heads. One guy fainted dead away and my neighbor thought he had killed him!!

Sorry about your situation. I can imagine the terrible frustration. The only hope is that they try stealing copper that is still juiced and fry themselves next time.

Sorry to hear you were hit !..

I'm into a bunch of different cars and I'm hearing this happening across all the boards.

They even cut the catalytic converter out of a friends car in front of his house. I guess this is getting rampant in all day parking lots like Bart stations ....
Should be able to hunt em like Dogs ...

Man.....I sure hope you find them.
The damage is done but I hope they get to pay for it one way or another.
Its so bad around our area that the wrecking and scrap yards take a photo copy of your drivers licence when you bring stuff in.
In our quarry operations weve lost thousands of $ in wiring , steel , stolen batteries and diesel from equipment.

One of the odd ones recently - 150 gal aluminum fuel tank bolted to a portable screen plant.
Scrap MUST be high when they dump the fuel out and take the tank !
It took a couple hours to clean up with a 980 cat.

Doesnt seem like theres any respect for anyone or anything now days.
Buck shot therapy might reform a few.

Unfortunately, because of shyster lawyers, you can't just wound them anymore, you have to shoot to kill.

Amazingly so, CA allows lethal force to protect property, however, since most guns are banned here, I guess we have to talk them to death........

A rash of gas and battery thefts have grown to epidemic proportions in the past few weeks.
The scum that steals my diesel fuel for his honda, should be easy to find....=

It may sound cold but my Dad always told us " guns are not toys ,and they are not for threatening , they are ONLY used to kill . NEVER pick up a gun, even in self defence unless you fully intend to kill. "

It has stuck with me all my life.
Would I if someone was stealing some of my beloved tools or parts ?
                              I dont know........
If someone came in my house or intended to harm inocent people - ABSOLUTELY
