  • Np203?

I have a 76 W100 and the tranny is getting rebuilt, the 203 is out also. How do I check chain stretch? And, is there anything else that I should do while its out?

I don't know that there is a way to do it with the case assembled.

Why is it that the inside of old truck cabs smell so good?

Never having one apart but understanding the workings of this TC wouldn't holding one output side and turning the other give a idea as to how much slop is in the chain? I don't know what the free play is supposed to be but if you can turn one a good bit I'd say a chain replacement would be a good thing. Try to find a factory service manual to help diagnose your 203. A chain and related parts probably isn't going to be a cheap proposition. Just my 2 cents.

I guess I will look at the magnet inside and go from there, If I could just put a new chain on without taking it apart I would, but you have to take it apart.

If it's out of the truck anyway, it likely would not be that difficult.

Out of curiosity, was it filled with tranny fluid, engine oil or gear oil?

It had oil in it, and I put 10w 30 back in when I changed it.

Good. Lots of folks put 90w in them for some reason.
