Im not real sure on the spline count ( i think its 10 ), I have a couple layin around so I'll find out for ya.
I had planned on using a mechanical bellhousing with my 383 , but I ended finding the whole setup for the hyd bell , sure made it an easy swap .
Not sure on the mech. bell , but the hyd one is a monster - I would suppose that your 540 clutch is the same as the one for the BB hyd bellhousing.
Im pretty sure mine came out of a big truck with a 361 or 413 , but thats just a guess.
The BB bells are real scarce arround here , Ive come across a few mechanicals and just the one hyd.
It seems like I remember Gordon had a write up about a W300 with a 440 / 540 combo.
