  • Engine numbers

Took my 37 to a car/truck show and saw a fellow there with a 1947 dodge truck. We got to talking and he saw my engine sierial number and said, " at least you have the right engine in there". I said how do you know. He said , your engine number starts with a -T-. If it was a -P- its a passenger car engine. He said his had a passenger car engine in his and did not know it until long after he bought it.
Not sure what the difference is if any. They look the same pretty much . His had a different carb and distributer and the water inlet was different but not much else that I could see.

One of the easiest ways to tell if the engine in an M37 is the correct military one other than checking the serial number which should begin with T245 is to look at the base of oil fill tube which should be bolted to the block instead of being pressed into it.

FYI, Here is a list of flat head Dodge engine numbers and what trucks the engines were originally installed in at the factory.
