    Tom,

That's a 300 isn't it. The fenders could have been changed, but all the spring mounts are stamped, not cast or forged, 4.88 gears, external front hubs and the frame is not doubled. I could be wrong but it appears to be a 300 to me.

    Dennis

Editing because I've been looking at that truck over and over again tonight (saved a copy on my desktop) and I can't decide if it's a 300 or a 500. The tire size looks to big to be 300. Somebody that's more up on those years will have to make the call.

      My vote is 300.

The frame rail height (vertical dimension) is too small for a 500, plus its too "curvy". Also W500 had Rockwell side loader rears & split case front axles (til 74). Wheel bolt pattern on a 500 was 6 lug on 8.75" spread.

I am impressed with the wheelie by the roll-off wrecker.

May have been a W 300. My mistake.
        Doesn't really matter anyway.

Why is it that the inside of old truck cabs smell so good?

            Hi Gordon.
Actually it's a Navistar DT360. a smaller version of the DT 466 Buit in the early nineties.
A lot of guy's confuse it with the venerable DT 466 International engine.
It's about the same size as a "6B" series Cummins.

Which engine is that in the photo? It is my understanding that the 466 is a really excellent engine. One of my fantasies would be to own a small, single axle dump powered by either the 366 or the 466. Apparently prior to a certain production year they were not computerized?

Regarding ready for winter, I would say no, if ready means wanting it to come! Also, I would like very much to be employed before winter, but we are running out of Fall.

                Tom,
how does the DT 360 differ from the DT444? I was not aware that there was a DT360. However, I know about the DT444, and I have been told the DT444 is generally the same as the 7.3 Powerstroke.
The DT444 is kind of weak for the bigger 2 ton trucks, if you haul much of a load. Is the DT 360 a better engine than the DT444?

I think the DT 360 is an inline six, the others are V-8's.

                    Gordon,
The picture is of a DT-366 urah Dt 360
The DT 466 is a great engine. Very reliable. It's comparable to the Cummins'"C" series although a little less Cubic inches. It's still used in trucks up to 50,000lbs GVW.
The DT 360 was used in 4700 series(2 ton) trucks and buses. Most people opted for a lower HP DT466.
I don't think they even offer the 360 anymore.

Hate to hear about work. I know it's really tough out there right now.
                    I have numerous friends unemployed.
Hope it turns around for you soon.

As we get older I don't think were ever ready for winter anymore.

                      Hi Jeff,
Hope all is well down there in warm country!

The DT 466 is a medium duty in line turbo charged 6 Cyl. diesel. with great reliability. It is comparable to a "C"series Cummins.
They are used in trucks and busses up 50,000 GVW.

The DT 360 which some mistakenly call a 366 is close to the "B" series Cummins In line Turbo Charged 6 Cyl.. engine. Not sure if it's still produced.

The DT 444 you ask is actually what international calls there V8 Diesel, that Ford Calls the Power Stroke V8
The Navistar DT 444 has much less reliability issues than the Ford version, because they Ford couldn't keep the screw driver away from it trying to compete in the pick-up horsepower wars.
Admittedly the engine didn't do well in the 2 ton trucks as you said. They did fine in 1 1/2 ton 20,000 GVW.

Tell everyone Judy and I say HI,

Thanks for the info. Tom. Yes, the DT466 is one of my favorite truck engines. I have had a couple of small dump trucks with that engine. Seems like they just keep going, like the Energizer Bunny.
I guess you and Judy are getting settled in for the winter weather. Hope you have a lot of firewood stored up. I can not say I miss the cold weather much at all. We did have our first freeze and frost here yesterday. Wallene say's "Howdy to youall".
