So often the human element is overlooked by the bean counters in industry.
Yes they can shave costs here and there and it is important to look at the expense side of the ledger closely in a well run business. But, when you impact morale negatively or make the employees even a little less efficient, that has a cost too.
This sort of problem occurs in other businesses, not just manufacturing.
I have co-owned a business for 31 years. People occasionally ask me why our business has been successful. They are a little surprised at times when I tell them simple "secrets":
Work hard, treat the customer (client) fairly and try to see things their way when they have a (legit) complaint, treat your employees fairly both with the work environment and compensation, set a high standards bar compared to the local competition, be careful with your expenditures and remember the Golden Rule.
So often people want to look for the short cut and/or forget the human element and this almost never works.
