Sadly, it will take many years more, he is now a martyr, there will be reprisals and increased security for a while longer as his minions seek revenge...
Vendetta is the way of the middle east, there will only be peace with the total defeat of the enemy.

You're quite right Norm, We knocked off their figure head and they will be wanting to retaliate. The first thing I did when I heard the news flash was to draw my .45 and check the mag. Just a reflex action I suppose, but subconciously I know the jobs not done yet. There are a lot more of them to deal with yet.
As I said in another forum and I have said here. I don't ordinarilly take pleasure in the death of another. In his case I'll make an exception.
Unfortunately this may actually turn out to be a boon to his organization. It must have cost quite a bit to hide him and move him around. I wonder if they'll get their cleaning deposit back on that house he was in.
I suppose it will either encourage or discourage new membership.
Everybody keep your eyes open, it isn't over yet.
I do have to commend the Intelligence and Operations personnell who carried out the strike. They did a great job and will never be properly rewarded.
I guess all we can do now is sit back and watch our politicians take credit for something they had nothing to do with.

The Taliban leadership likely see this as a good thing. America has acheived one of its fundamental aims, and our financial situation is quite similar to that of the Soviets in 1989, so we can't afford to linger on spending money the way we have been to prop up an ineffective regime.

Al-Quaeda has more to worry about short term with the intel we got, but that will pass in time. Their original leadership has taken major losses over the years, and there's uncertainty over how much control Osama actually had over the various cells, since he had to be quite careful about communications. The best way to make life hard for them on a day-to-day basis will be hitting their finances and whacking selected leaders.

The Afghan problem can't continue to be handled as an occupation if the U.S Govt. wants to remain financially viable- we'll crash just like the Russians did in 1991. It's going to have to get back to an advisor-type effort like it was prior to the invasion. Pick the strongest tribes that share our outlook and back them. Pakistan's cooperation will be required- it'll be most interesting to see how THAT plays out in light of the Bin Laden operation, which was "provocative", to say the least.
