  • July 4 activities...

    I am in the Color Guard of the local chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution organization.
    There was a public ceremony today at the home of Thomas Stone, a signer of the Declaration who had an estate nearby.
    My wife captured my flintlock just at the right time as we fired. THe muskets we have are all reproduction Brown Bess .75 caliber flintlocks.
    We had a good turn out today, over 50 people.
    I am wearing a militia uniform, and my comrades are wearing the uniform of the "Maryland Line" regular troops.

      That would be really cool to see in person. We don't have that type of local history, with Iowa's statehood being 1846.
