  • Ancestral Vehicular Photos

Gordon posted some very nice pictures of his late Mom, with some cars. I always enjoy seeing old pictures of people in back in other times and places. As a car nut, I especially enjoy seeing cars and trucks. So, I thought I'd post some photos of my grandparents, and encourage others to do the same.

Why is it that the inside of old truck cabs smell so good?

      Rabbit hunting

My father [left] and his brother, my uncle George, hunting rabbits in the early 40's.

George told me recently, "We ate a lot of rabbits then."

I once had a book that had historical pictures of vintage race cars. You could order prints of some of the photos.

One of the photos was taken about 1903, along a beach on the Atlantic Ocean. It contained a man on horseback, one on bicycle, one in a new fangled contraption soon to be known as an automobile, a couple afoot, and it seems like one in a Wright Bros type plane & possibly somebody in a boat..... The caption mentioned that it was possibly the only known picture featuring every method of transportation (at the time) present at the same time/place. It was a unique shot.

Thats a great picture. Now I have to look around for one here!

On a related note, just for kicks one day, I Googled my grandfather's name. He managed a gas station in Kansas - was not someone I would expect to find on the Internet from way back (unlike politicians, wealthy people, etc). I was amazed to see an image of his pop up that I had never seen before, from a wedding party in 1923. A distant relative had uploaded it to some site and voila! I wonder if any other PW folks have tried that...

Kevin, looks to be a '41 Chevy, or maybe a '46 or '47.

                I can't remember...

Okay, the Plymouth is a P2. If I were a Plymouth, I'd be a P3. If I were a Dodge 1/2 ton truck, I'd be an MC. If there was a new, current model 1/2 ton Dodge sitting there just out of camera range, it would be an RC.

Funny I can remember the model numbers, but I can't remember the years.

Hmm, if I were a Plymouth, I'd be a '58 Fury. Like in the movie "Christine."

No cigar because of safety, I suppose?

My Grandfather's '37 Dodge pickup after some "drift busting".
This photo was taken in '38. My dad was 6 years old at the
time. My cousins still run the family farm just outside of Kamrar
                            Iowa.
