This is the second time in a very short time, that I have learned that a friend that I never met has passed on, that I "met" as a result of my 40 year interest in Dodge. I have not been here on this forum much in the past year or so, so it was a real gut kicking shock to read about this on Facebook about a half hour ago. I would thank Will Watson II for sharing that information.
I will have to say that since I never met Gordon in person, that is my loss, while at the same time, I feel like I have known him my whole entire life.
I would offer condolences to Carol and his family and also to all of Gordon's "Dodge family", of which I am honored to be one of many.
I am guessing that Gordon never, ever met a stranger.

I am stunned. saddened. I never met the man in person but we shared so many communications and ideas, I honestly never felt the need to.
Now, that is something I regret.
I love his writings. My wife even looked forward to reading "Sitting on the Tailgate" every month.
He is a fixer. And not just Trucks, Guns, Stihl chainsaws, BMW motorcycles and other things mechanical.
He can mend your soul.

You will be missed my friend.

I read all the posts and found myself agreeing to to the sentiments shared about
Gordon from all the friends he has on this forum. I too admired Gordon's humble approach to learning and his ability to see the value in each person that he interacted with.

It was very hard for me to cope with my feelings after learning of his passing. With kind words and helpful insight he helped me through a very bad time after my son Lee died several years ago and now the very great fellow who did the most to assist me with my grief has himself moved on, thank you Gordon, I will miss you Sir.

Sad Day For Us All

Very sorry to hear of Gordon's passing. We have all lost a good friend, even those of us who never met Gordon personally. We knew of his wisdom and his heart through his writing. Some of us were fortunate enough to correspond with him at times. I know I was. I was also privileged to send him some parts for an M37 project he was working on a few years ago.
We connected with Gordon on many levels. First of all, he loved old trucks.
He loved simple, well-made and useful things. I think many of us are that way, also, although probably not on the same level as Gordon. He wrote what many of us felt, but could never put into writing like he could.
Upon hearing of his passing, I too, went to his website to copy his Philosophy.
I want to preserve as much of what was Gordon Maney as I possibly can.
The many years of The Power Wagon Advertiser, that I have are now more valuable to me because that is where Gordon lives.
My great hope is that someday, when I get to heaven, Gordon will be there worshiping Jesus with me, from the tailgate of an old Dodge. I sure hope Jesus likes old trucks.

As I re-read this thread for the second time, I cannot help but feel how humbled Gordon would be, by reading these posts.
Every one of them are a tribute to his temperament, demeanor and legacy, a sure sign that the fine men and women who frequent here, were touched by his soul.

I had the good fortune of spending some time with Gordon back in March. Over several days, we had the chance to chat off and on throughout the days and well into the evenings.

I will relay to you all that his humility prevented him from fully grasping the impact that he had upon us all. He caught me off guard with his question "What have I done to deserve all this attention?". Eyes got moist, my throat got tight and I could only shrug and say "You are who you are and people are drawn to that. People are just trying to give back a little of what you have given them." He just shook his head, still baffled by all the good wishes and attention that his many friends we heaping upon him, but he was clearly moved by all the good thoughts that were coming his way.

Who else but Gordon, could put together a coalition that could get 4 or five folks to deliver 20 ton jacks from halfway across the country, or a nice shipment of gloves? ;)
