    I'll have to disagree with the info about machining a spacer so single bearing cups may be used here; that makes no sense. It isn't the double cup that is over priced, it is reasonable at around $70; likely less than the cost of material and machining of the spacer at a reputable shop. Then there is the issue of having a correct assembly after installing will fit parts. Also, did you know there is oiling holes and a groove in the double cup that would have to be machined in any spacer you cut so the bearings can oil properly? The 2 bearing cones that work with the double cup are the costly parts at around $190 each. This still isn't the worst part of the cost; that is the large bearing cone that is on the lower end of the pinion shaft next to the gear. It sells for around $280 for a good quality bearing these days. If you choose to use Chinese parts at a lesser cost, you are taking a real risk, but junk bearings are out there to be had.
