Overall I was happy with it. It did really well, but it can do better. With all the weight I've dropped from the truck the last few years, we noticed this season, that I'm not loading the engine down and hitting the top of the governor and that's killing my performance. Against the normal trucks I ran with, on a shallow pit I didn't stand a change against them, but if the mud was deeper I did better because I loaded the engine down more. That's why i'm changing the gears.
Well, it's a new race season and already had my first broken part. Attended a race at the end of March here in Tulsa, made my first pass and did good with the new gears in the truck, went to make a second pass in that class and couldn't build boost. Figured out after testing out the truck that I broke the converter. It was basically acting like I had no stall. You put it in gear and it tried to kill the engine. I had used that converter for about 5 seasons now, so I contacted hughes performance and had a new custom converter built for the truck. Oh and that race where the converter broke, I ended up 2nd out of 18 trucks.
Raced last weekend and didn't get better than 5th in the 2 classes I raced in.
I have some questions, does anyone know how much the front fenders each weigh? How about the hood? the front outer grill shroud? I'm starting to think about race weight fiberglass panels to replace the steel ones on the front to lighten the front end up some.
