  • Rookie power wagoner

I'm very happy to announce that as of yesterday (2/8/14) I took delivery of my very first Dodge Power Wagon. It is a red '49 WDX that somebody converted to a wrecker some years ago. The truck is pretty rough, but mostly complete and titled. This all came to be just six short months after seeing my very first flat fender in Lowes parking lot. It was a yellow on black behemoth complete with winch and chains, looked like a Rottweiler ready to strike. I was very confused to have such strong feelings for a Dodge since I am a GM guy. After some serious soul searching I decided to give into temptation and dive in head first.

Ever since that faithful day at Lowes I have racked up some miles on my '06 Saturn burning up the back roads tracking down leads. Must of the time only to find out that they were completely rusted out (a very unfortunate reality living in the rust belt), no title, or that what they though was a civilian Power Wagon was something wildly different. Finally my lucky day, a response to my Craigslist ad stating that not only did he have a Power Wagon but it was titled and would be willing to deliver. Leaving straight from work the following day, I arrive at the fairly unassuming house. I get escorted to the back of the house, through 8" of snow. There she was like a diamond in the rough atop of a solid sheet of ice in 10 degree weather, with look just begging me to take her. After a thorough inspection a brief negotiation and a handshake it was all mine. Then three days later or what seemed like and eternity he delivered the truck right on time. I now have my own behemoth tucked nicely in my garage and a very unconvinced girl friend that is fairly certain we have 5,00o lbs. of scrap metal taking up precious real estate that could be used to stack endless tots of various house decorations.

I will load pictures once I figure out how.

Congats and welcome to the club! BTW, if your truck is a 1949, it is a B-1.

You will find all kinds of useful info here within these forums.

    Enjoy!

So it is called a B-1 not a WDX?

Hey, welcome to the family and fun. Where are you located?
        I drive a DODGE, not a ram!

        Thanks,

That is correct. WDX models cover the fist 2 years of production, 1946 & 1947 only.

Ok so here is my first question. The carburetor that is on my '49 B-1 is the wrong one. The throttle linkage comes no where close to hooking up. So what carburetors will work on my truck. Maybe even a 2 barrel that would be a direct hook up (if one exist).

There should be a tag riveted to the hinge side if the driver's door jamb. It will have a serial number, that should match the chassis number, as well as the model designation.

What model number does your tag show?

You have to be a paid member to save photos to the site, however you can insert them via html link from another web site like picassa or photobucket using the picture button.

Skyler, according to your truck's serial number, it is a 1948 B-1...
