i would like some help on decoding the VIN. i tried a few different vin decoders and the one on ramcharger central just said search failed. one decoder told me it was a dodge charger with a 318 lol.

i know the "w" is 4x4 and the "2" is 200 for 3/4 ton. but the rest im not sure. here it is.

    W24JTAS141XXX

    thanks guys

I'll try and guess this from memory: The "4" means regular cab/sweptline, The "J" is the GVW rating (probably 8000lbs-10000lbs), The "T" is the engine size, The "A" should be model year 1980, and The "S" is the plant where manufactured. At least that's what comes to mind but I would not bet my life on it. The Haynes manual laying behind the seat will have VIN info in it, but I have the same manual somewhere and seems like I remember some inaccuracies in it. One thing I am more sure of is passenger car VIN decoders shouldn't be used for trucks.

well the truck was from department of transportation, the previous owner bought it from a DOT auction, and i trust the previous owner. and he bought it, liscenced, and registered it in 91

              VIN mystery

I may have my information for the fourth, fifth and sixth digits in my previous post out of order. I'm certain the seventh digit "S" is the plant location for vehicle origin. Also I believe 1980 was the last year for the 13 digit VIN and the industry went to the 17 digit VIN numbering system in 1981.
