I'm back on the Crispy critter 58 PG

I've been blocking the primer and hitting the low spots. The bedsides are worse than I thought with the little bumps and dings. I still have to prime the front clip and hood but with work being as busy as it is I'm losing my good weather fast I'm afraid. How about on your end?

Not nearly as well as I had hoped. Its actually going so slow that I decided I needed to sit back and reevaluate the timeline for it. I had hoped to have it going this winter to use as a plow truck but I do not see that happening. A great deal gave me all the extra time I need on it to just do it right the first time without having to redo anything. I just bought a 1995 Ram 1500 4x4 today for $1500! Its ugly but its mechanically sound and my plow will bolt right up to it. Now I have all the time I need for the '59. When I get the '59 done I will sell the Ram, should even turn a bit of a profit on it after I clean up the dirtball! If we dont get any snow this winter I will sell the truck with the plow and just cash out of that deal altogether. Weather is slipping fast here too, I got the cab inside the garage so that will help tremendously.

As Curly would say, "Why Soitenly". I just don't know when that'll be. I'm really busy right now and will lose two weekends in a row by being out of town. I'll get some progress shots as I go along. Thanks for the compliment.

We're BAAACK

It's been a while but for good reason. I took Crispy Critter to Maaco to have it painted back at the end of December. I picked up all the sheet metal two weeks ago and today the cab was set on the chassis. My friend Jerry Johnson came to lend a hand and to look over the progress on his truck. With using my two post hoist, setting the cab went perfectly. Now the work begins. We also set up the bed on horses to test fit the new floor boards and bed strips. It looks great in Ponchatrain green with black floor boards. The cab is two toned in green and Sand dune white in base coat/ clear coat. A lot of detail work ahead painting nuts and bolts along with small parts needed to finish this project. It was a rewarding day in the shop sharing time and stories with Jerry. Yes I do have pictures. Just trying to decide if I want to post them now or wait until it's finished. It's looking sweet so far.

I thought I'd try posting two pictures of before and after. The burnt cab was replaced by another 58 cab from D500. The bed is the original and can be seen in the background in the second picture.

Thanks Eddie. I like it. I put the front grill bars in yesterday and they really pop against the green. Can't wait to get it finished but a lot of little parts needed cleaned and painted.

Made some great headway on the critter today. With Pieter's help we got the bed floor fitted and drilled. The steering column is painted and ready to go in which will allow us to set the front clip. I put the headlight assemblies together and installed them just need a new headlight. The heater is in as are the door locks and outside handles. I have to paint the vent wings before I set them in place. New glass was ordered for the vents. A new parts list will be needed for the details like a windshield gasket, speedo cable, heater hoses etc. Once I get the floor boards and cross members painted the bed can go on. Next up is sandblasting/ painting the wheels and mount the new tires.

A lot of progress

Last weekend we got the front clip hung on the truck and set the hood in place. WOW what difference that made.
With help from Jerry Johnson we were able to bolt the bed floor boards in today. Having it ready we set the bed on with more help from my brother. Going one more step we hung the fenders on the bed. NOW it's really coming together. This is a major milestone for this project. I finished the day by bolting the bed down, installing hood hinges and other misc details. The little details are really popping up as parts go on to finish. You don't know how many parts need to cleaned and painted unless you do a full restoration. Just chasing threads on nuts and bolts is a task but worth it in the end. I'm going to pull the wheels and get them blasted so I can paint them now that warm weather is hopefully here to stay. I can't wait to see the new tires mounted on the truck. Sorry no pictures, my camera had dead batteries.

Looks good Ron! Is that more of a cream white or is it a bright white? Kinda hard to tell next to the green. I cant wait for some decent weather and some free time to get to fitting my cab to its donor frame. Unfortunately not much else has happened to it, the Wrangler kinda bumped its way in and took some work time (it wanted a Spring over axle flip with some Wagoneer axles so that I could fit 35's under it lol).

Thanks it is turning out very nice. That's Sand dune White and it is a creamy white. Arctic White is to bright for this combo. This has more yellow in it. I don't care for Sahara Beige which is a 58 color so I went to 59 for this white. I have the rims painted and waiting for the paint to cure before mounting the new STA 17.5 tires I bought last fall. The interior is next up on the agenda along with the new glass. Once the interior is in place it's all details to the end. I hope.
