My cousin raises about 21,000 feeder hogs per year. I may only get out to Iowa once a year but I make darn sure I have a pork dinner in Red Oak, Iowa each and every visit.

The Hog and Pig Report for March shows that the number of swine in Iowa as of March 1 was 18.9 million. There are an estimated 3,007,856 people living in Iowa which means that hogs in the Hawkeye State outnumber Iowans by a margin of roughly 6 to 1.

One of the nicest things about the Iowa rally is that we regularly stop whatever we are doing and devote ourselves to eating.

Iowa Chops go great with Iowa sweet corn and freshly picked Iowa apples baked into an apple cinnamon pie.

The Rally

That's absolutely incredible. The census bureau stats came in early.

It's like waiting to go to Disneyland, can't sleep well - wife is tired of hearing about it - and I just enjoy a good road trip.

You guys can't believe how excited Luann, Nicholas and I are to have all of you here for the rally! We have been bustin butt to get things done around the Morton farm for Nicholas' graduation (can you believe it?) and then the RALLY! We completed 2 decks on the house and have been collecting roasters for the famous CAVATINI the Tuesday night before the rally kickoff. let us know if you're going to make it Tuesday night. Once again, Jay has been so gracious as you all have for the Camp Courageous cause. A little over a month from now is gonna be awesome!

I too had to go to Ottumwa one year for the same reason. It's 25 miles from Fairfield and a straight run back and forth. I kept checking with the Super 8 in Fairfield for vacancies and one room opened up after the first day. That's the one problem when the rally hits town, a shortage of rooms. Aside from that you will enjoy your first rally. This will be my 8th rally and far my last one. Be sure to get a Tshirt or three , they discount leftover shirts from previous years. And don't forget the camera. The teeter board and the parade are two of my favorite events besides seeing old friends and making new ones.

Sorry that I will miss meeting you as I have had to cancel my Iowa trip this year due to unforeseen circumstances.
Will be the first I will miss in 7 years. Thoroughly enjoyed every one of them.

I would keep trying the hotels in Fairfield. They may have some last minute cancellations.
