  • Old 60's TV Series

This weekend I purchased a set of CD's of the 1960's TV show Cannonball. This was a show produced in Canada about two truckers driving a GMC (Cannonball) cabover tractor. It was interesting watching this and seeing all the old vehicles and you could actually tell that the GMC had an inline Detroit engine. I don't think the boys made much money trucking though.

Also picked up the complete series Route 66. This series was actually filmed here in my home town of Carlisle, Pa. I remember when they rolled into town. I begged my mom to take me to see Buzz (George Maharis) and Todd (Martin Milner) and their 1962 Corvette. We actually got up and real close to see them film. It's funny to watch them and know that I was there on the set in 1962 watching them film.

    Anybody remember these old shows?

I'm glad to hear they finally released Cannonball. Last I heard a few years ago, the rights owners were foriegn and had no desire to release it. Where did you find it at Bill? Thanks, Roy

          I watched Route 66 a lot. I don't know if I saw Cannonball.

But then, I'm probably too young.....

Why is it that the inside of old truck cabs smell so good?

            Cannonball TV Show

Roy, I was at the Spring Carlisle car show this past weekend and stopped at a vendor who sells cd's of just about any old TV show that is related to cars-trucks and you name it. There were a bunch more of great old movies and TV shows.

I remember watching Cannonball when I was a kid. I loved that show. I have watched some of the episodes that are on YouTube.

                Old tv shows

After superstorm sandy we had no commercial power or Internet connections for 10 days. I fired up the generator and opened the house up to the neighborhood kids who were having tv withdrawal . Little rascal DVDs, mr Ed DVDs ,Johnny Weissmuller Tarzan DVDs. Kids loved it. They were all amazed that the little rascals were allowed to run wild in the streets with Petey in tow. They couldn't believe the wobly wagon with the goose horn, boxing glove , and Algebra the mule pulling it. The kids asked if children were really allowed to run loose in the olden days. There was talk of building a treehouse or a go cart/wagon but unfortunately power came back on and they all went back into their electronic cocoons.

Kids today have no idea what we had at that age. We played army and had guns out the wazoo. We built tree houses, drank from the garden hose, rode our bikes everywhere and when we did watch TV we had to get off our butts to change the channel. Roy Rogers, Sky King, my personal favorite The Adventures of Superman and last but not least Looney Tunes were all better than the trash forced on the public today. Information today is great but it hinders the imagination of our youth in my opinion. Problem solving skills are all but nonexistent. One of my grandsons was doing very well in school until the school went to I-pads. Now he doesn't do his homework and is falling behind. My daughter saw this and had the good sense to ground him from the social medias until his grade improve. Sorry I went off on a tangent, now back to our regularly scheduled programming. Can someone move the rabbit ears a little to the right?

My cable provider has a station called Me TV. All the programing are shows from the 50'-70's. I watch the old shows to see all the old automobiles. Emergency is one of my favorites. Gota love seeing that 72 one ton roll out of the station.

That's exactly what I use Ron. When I do watch the
tube, three or four channels [two of them public broadcast]
                      give me all I require.

One of my favorite shows from the little kid days was called The Forest Rangers. As proof you can find anything on the internet, see the link below. You only need to watch the opening to see what made the show really special...

Sky King was always my favorite. I should find out if it's available on DVD.
